Product Review: #NewFromSwiffer – Swiffer Sweep & Trap!

I have been a fan of Swiffer products for years (the day I discovered the Swiffer Wet Jet was life changing for me).  That being the case, I was very excited to have the opportunity to try out the new Swiffer Sweet & Trap, even before it hit the stores.

One great thing about this product is that it eliminates the need for a dust pan.  Honestly that is greatness for me, because I never (EVER) know where my dust pan is… not to mention I have never been able to master the act of sweeping a broom and holding a dust pan at the same time!  The Swiffer Sweep & Trap uses rotating blades to pick up large particles and it flicks them into a dirt bin.  There’s also a Swiffer Sweeper dry cloth attached to the bottom.  It picks up the particles such as dirt, dust and hair that are too small to make it into the bin.  The Swiffer Sweep & Trap uses the same dry cloths as the Swiffer Sweeper, so if you have multiple Swiffer products in your household, they are interchangeable.  These are designed for use on hard floor surfaces only.  They will not work on carpet, not even on rugs (yep… I tried it, and the dry cloth prevents the sweeper from sliding, which is what activates the ‘trap’ action).

I spent some time playing around with my new Swiffer Sweep & Trap and I thought I’d include a quick video to show you briefly how it works.  My husband happened to come downstairs while I was trying to make the video.  He offered to use the Swiffer Sweep & Vac for me, while I shot the video from my phone.  I didn’t give him any instruction on how to use it, and since he wasn’t really coming downstairs to clean the floor, it’s really short.  That being said, it’s a good testament as to how easy it is to use.

One thing to keep in mind when using this product – by nature, I wanted to use a back and forth motion… similar to vacuuming.  The Swiffer Sweep & Trap works best when you keep it moving in a forward motion.  When you pull it backwards, if debris is still in the rotating blades, it will fall back onto the floor, causing you to have to go back over it again.  It’s lightweight and has a swivel head, so it’s very easy to maneuver.  It might just take some practice to break old habits.  Honestly when I use mine, it reminds me of commercials and old movies that I’ve seen, where the housekeepers are dancing while cleaning the floors.  (Yes I know my brain goes strange places sometimes, but it works for me!)

Once you have finished cleaning up your mess, the dirt bin snaps off easily with one hand.  Since the debris is contained in the bin, you can just dump the contents straight into the trash.  The bin snaps back on with one click.

Overall I have mixed feelings on this product.  I don’t love it like I do the Swiffer WetJet, but I do see a niche where I will use it in my home.  I have five (messy) boys.  They are constantly spilling cereal and other food items onto the tile floor in my kitchen.  I will keep my Swiffer Sweep & Trap in my pantry for such clean ups, and it will work great.  Plus, it’s easy enough to use, I can have teach them to clean it up themselves!  However, if it’s a larger mess, or a mess in my den where I have a mixture of rugs and hardwood floors, I will most likely do it the lazy way and pull my vacuum out of the closet. 

The Swiffer Sweep & Trap, available at Walmart, has the same convenience as an original Swiffer, but can now pick up larger particles.
