Chicken Bourekas Recipe

One of my Favorite things to make is Bourekas. These are super easy to make and you can fill it with anything. My kids are pretty picky when it comes to what is inside so I leave it as plain as possible but what they do not know is that I put a bunch of yummy things that they do not know about. Here is what I do:

Ingredients

2 sheets puff pastry (store bought or homemade) I grab them from my store.
1 1/2 lbs of Ground Chicken (You can use any meat you prefer)
1 Onion (Minced)
1 Red Pepper (minced)
Salt (to taste)
Pepper (to taste)
Granulated Garlic (to taste)
1 large egg yolk
1 tbsp sesame or poppy seeds (optional)
Nonstick cooking oil spray

Description

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit while prepping your filling.

In a frying pan, add in your Onions and Peppers. I like to make mine super fine so that my kids do not know it is in there. Make sure you do not burn them. You will know when it is ready once the onions turn translucent. Once the Peppers and Onions are ready I add in Ground Chicken. Mix the Ground Chicken, Peppers and Onions together. Add your Salt, Pepper & Granulated Garlic and any other spices you like to use as the mixture is cooking.

Lightly flour surface and unfold one of your puff pastry sheets. Use a rolling pin to roll out the sheet to a 12×12 inch square.

Spoon in your filling into your unrolled Puff Pastry. Fold the dough squares by grasping one corner and folding it over to the opposite corner to make triangles. Pinch firmly along the outer open edge of the triangles to seal. I usually crimp the edges with the tines of a fork.

Spray your baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray or line with parchment paper. Place Bourekas on each sheet, evenly spaced, giving them some room to expand during the baking process

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and 2 tsp of cool water. Use a pastry brush to brush a light layer of the egg wash onto the surface of each Boureka.

Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds, if desired. Like I said, my kids are super picky so I do not add it.

Bake for 30 minutes until golden brown.
