Disclosure: I received a box of assorted Peeps at no cost to me, and used them for this activity. All opinions are 100% truthful and my own.
Got Peeps? Boy I sure do! Odds are you might have a pack or two of these laying around your house right now. If not, I’m sure you can probably score some great deals on them in stores today! My entire family LOVES Peeps. My littles like the colored ones the best, and I really like the ones dipped in chocolate. (Chocolate makes everything better in my book!)
My boys and I were trying to think of something fun do with our Peeps tonight. We already made Peeps Cupcakes, but this time we were looking for something quick and EASY. We decided to make Peeps S’mores! I am a huge fan of s’mores anyway, so this was right up my alley.
These guys were certainly up for the challenge. No complaining here! Boy #1 wasn’t around for the picture, but he came down and joined the fun shortly after. He has my sweet tooth, so I didn’t figure he would miss out.
We pulled out all of our ingredients: Peeps (of course), Graham Crackers and Hershey’s Bars! I had each boy stack their Peep on one of the graham crackers and we popped them into the microwave for a few seconds. I didn’t really time this… we just watched them and stopped the microwave when we thought they were done (around 30 seconds or so).
Have you ever put a Peep into the microwave? It’s actually quite funny to watch. My boys were laughing hysterically! They puff up, and since they are character shaped…. well, you will just have to do it because it’s pretty darn funny.
Once out of the microwave, we added the Hershey’s Chocolate, topped it with the other graham cracker, then pushed down so that the marshmallow would melt the chocolate. The sugar coating is nice, because you can handle them without getting sticky fingers (until you smush them, then all bets are off).
Here’s what our finished product looked like. Sorry about the blurry picture. I didn’t realize it was blurry right away, and trust me… these didn’t last long enough for a re-take!
Just a note… if you have a choice, we learned that the Rabbits work much better than the Chickens. The rabbits are flat and they stay in place as they puff up. The chickens, however, tend to roll around as they puff and even fall over. This only adds to the hysterics… maybe you should use the chickens, lol!
If you have Peeps left over from Easter (or any holiday these days), be sure and grab some graham crackers and chocolate and give these a try. You won’t be disappointed!
