Meet “Mr. M”. Mr. M is a technician for Zerorez SoCal and he became my new BFF last week! We drank cleaning solution together (true story!). More on that in a bit…
If you’ve been around here long, you probably know that I live in a house with my husband, my five boys and our two horses dogs. Most days it resembles a circus around here. I do my best to keep things together, but let’s face it… it’s a very active home, and we are a very busy family. I try very hard to keep the floors clean, but some days I lose that battle. And even when it’s clean… is it really CLEAN?
Ever heard of the ‘5 Second Rule’? People joke about it all the time. You do know that it’s a complete myth, right? It’s been scientifically tested and proven that bacteria can attach itself to food the second it hits the floor. I’m not saying that you’re going to get sick every time… but I don’t like to gamble (and I have really bad luck, at times). When it doubt – toss it out! This is very difficult to enforce with young boys. I’ve watched my little ones time and time again, drop something they were enjoying onto the floor, and not think twice about picking it back up and popping it into their mouth. It’s GROSS if you think about it.
I am a bit of a germ freak… largely because my husband has some health issues. When he gets sick it often turns in to a major event, not to mention a scary one. My entire family of 7 (myself included) was taken down by the stomach flu a couple of weeks ago. I have to admit that I endured one of the worst days of my life that week. It was absolutely terrible, and even landed my poor husband in the hospital for a day. I cleaned and cleaned, but I had 2 kids get it a 2nd time so I know there must have been germs hiding somewhere. Hard surfaces are fairly easy to disinfect… but what do you do about the CARPET?
Let me just say right now that I DESPISE carpet. I absolutely HATE it. Sure it’s soft and warm, even feels good on the feet… but it gets so dirty, so quickly. It’s near impossible to keep clean if you actually LIVE in your home. Unfortunately I have it on my stairs, and throughout the entire upstairs of the house and it’s here to stay for the time being. I’ve tried having carpets cleaned in the past. It looks like it’s clean when they leave, but as soon as it dries, you start to see some of the stains come back through. Not to mention it usually leaves the house smelling like wet dog or some sort of a chemical cocktail… neither of which is appealing.
Here’s where my BFF Mr. M and Zerorez SoCal come in…
My middle son’s room is the smallest room in the house, but it’s also the room that the all the boys like to hang out in. Why? I have no idea! We have a strict ‘NO FOOD UPSTAIRS’ Rule, but they still manage to sneak things up there when I’m not paying attention. Some days it looks like a frat party went down in there. Our house is a newer home, so the carpet is still in good shape. However, the carpet in this room, being that it’s party central, had several spots and stains. I’m not even sure what all it was… but even drops of water from water guns that are in no-way-allowed-to-be-shot-indoors (ahem), attract dirt. Zerorez SoCal came in and within a few minutes, had the carpet in this room looking brand new again!
Mr. M also worked the Zerorez SoCal Magic on my stairs! Just like the bedroom picture above, my stairs also had similar spots of varying sizes, on both the risers and the treads of the steps. I try so hard to keep shoes off the stairs, but the traffic alone can do a number on them. Plus, I would say that I probably have an extremely high level of traffic on mine. (In our last house my triplets actually RODE A TWIN MATTRESS down the stairs, so just use your imagination).
My stairs came out looking brand new, and I couldn’t be happier. My house smelled clean and fresh, and the carpets dried quickly, even on a rainy day. Also note the extra care that Mr. M took to protect my hardwood floors. He was very professional, super friendly… and of course a great sport since I was following him around snapping his picture.
Overall, I am shocked at how clean my carpets are, and with NO CHEMICALS at all. Zerorez SoCal uses high pH alkaline water as the cleaning solution. It’s heated to about 200 degrees, so surfaces are cleaned and sanitized, without harmful toxins or chemicals. It is so safe that you can even DRINK it, so to prove it… I DID! (Hence the picture up top with Mr. M). For the record it tastes like ordinary tap water… just a little bitter!
