Disclosure: I received a coupon for a FREE Foster Farms Oven Ready Entree to facilitate my review. All opinions expressed in this review are truthful, and my own.Foster Farms has a new product on the market – Foster Farms Oven Ready Entrees!
This is a new fresh chicken product, made from all-natural, American Humane Certified, 99% fat free, fresh chicken breasts. It’s available in four different varieties is packaged in a recyclable, oven-safe tray for convenience. I purchase Foster Farms fresh chicken products on a regular basis, so I was excited to try this new offering.
I found these in my local Vons store, near the other Foster Farms fresh chicken items. I had to choose between the four flavors: Chile Verde, Roasted Red Pepper, Zesty Thai and Honey Roasted Garlic. I decided on the Chile Verde, but I’m looking forward to trying the others too! These are super convenient. If you’ve been around here long, I’m sure you know that my family owns a local restaurant here in Orange County, and my husband isn’t home for dinner most nights. I’m constantly struggling to figure out something nutritious to feed myself and my 5 boys. My boys are incredibly picky eaters, and there are very few things that I can get all of them to eat. That being said, I don’t have much motivation to spend all night slaving in the kitchen, only for them to push their plates aside.
These Foster Farms Oven Ready Entrees are SO EASY! They’re ready in 30 minutes, and there is virtually no prep. You simply remove the outer cardboard sleeve, and place the oven-safe tray on a baking sheet. Cut a small slit in the plastic film and pop it into a 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes. Since it comes in its own baking dish, you don’t even have to dirty a dish! I set my oven timer for 30 minutes and it came out perfect.
I served my Chile Verde chicken with a side of rice and black beans. I sliced the chicken breasts in thin strips and plated it for the boys. My 4th grader could not get enough of this chicken! He finished his plate before I even finished serving the others. This is my child that does tend to eat meat, so I was surprised at the enthusiasm in his reaction, but not overly shocked. The shock came when my 13 year old asked for more! I had originally given him a very small slice to try and loaded up his plate with rice. (My 13 year old is hands down my most picky eater, and he eats almost NO meats unless they are drowned in ketchup, and usually from a drive thru.) He seriously asked me for more, and actually said ‘A LOT more’. I almost passed out right there in the middle of my kitchen. My 3 little guys were more interested in their Legos than their dinner that night, but one of the three did clean his plate (that’s a win at my house).
I personally also enjoyed my Foster Farms Oven Ready Chile Verde Chicken! The oven-ready packaging keeps the moisture inside as it bakes, so it doesn’t dry out at all. I’m sure that’s what made the difference for my boys. It was fork tender, incredibly moist, and very flavorful. I didn’t load up the sauce on the little guys portions, so I had extra sauce that I enjoyed mixing in with my rice. These are pre-packaged from the manufacturer, and are sold by the pound. I chose a 1.25lb pack with two large chicken breast halves, and we had plenty. I will definitely buy this product again!
