The holidays are coming up very quickly and our local food banks are going to be hit hard again this year.  Living in Orange County among some of the wealthiest people in the world, it’s easy to overlook the hunger problem that is right under our noses.  Many people believe that hunger is confined to the homeless, but the reality is much different. These are often hard-working adults, young children and seniors who simply cannot make ends meet.  People are being forced to go without food for several meals, or even days. With sky-high rents, rising costs and unemployment, too many people are having to make life-threatening choices.

WANT TO HELP?

If you’re one of my local Orange County readers and are interested in Donating FOOD or TOILETRY items to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange CountyCONTACT ME!

OC Deal Mama is organizing a food and toiletry drive that I plan to personally deliver to the Second Harvest Food Bank next week (likely Thursday 10/25).  This is a GREAT WEEK to pick up some FREE General Mills items at Ralphs, which is what prompted my (impulsive) thinking.  If you are interested in donating food or toiletry items, please let me know via the Contact Me form on this website, or the Facebook page.  I already have a few volunteers that have stepped up to help, but I could use a lot more!  I am happy to pick up your donations (local Orange County) or you can JOIN US and make your donation in person!  If you’re interested in helping, Please CONTACT ME for more details.

  1. […] by ocdealmama on October 24, 2012 This is and example of what one (extremely focused) person can do to help the community over the course of a week!  I have over 400 items in this picture, all ready to donate.  I followed the 20 item per transaction rule and shopped four different stores, a little bit each day.  I never cleared shelves, not even on the last day.  My stores re-stocked every night.  Best part – I paid almost NOTHING for it.  It was a GREAT WEEK, and I am so excited to take this down to the Second Harvest Food Bank tomorrow!
